The driver is obliged to adapt the speed of the vehicle to the characteristics and condition of the road, visibility, transparency, atmospheric conditions, vehicle condition and load, traffic density, traffic signs and other traffic conditions, so that the vehicle can be stopped in a timely manner against any obstacle that can be under the specified conditions to predict.

On the motorways in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the maximum speed of 130 km / h is prescribed by law.

Strict speed limits apply to the following vehicles:

  • 100 km per hour – for buses
  • 80 km per hour – for light-duty buses, as well as for freight motor vehicles with a maximum permissible mass of more than 3500 kg and less than 7500 kg
  • 80 km per hour – for motor vehicles that pull a trailer (caravan) or a light trailer
  • 70 km per hour – for buses when organized children transport, for articulated buses with no place for standing, for commercial vehicles with a maximum permissible mass of more than 7500 kg and for commercial vehicles with a trailer

When driving motor vehicles, drivers of these vehicles are obliged to observe the prescribed speeds and the higher speed is allowed on the road on which the traffic sign is set.
